It is an important decision made by the Communist Party of China
and central government to adopt the strategy of developing West
China when approaching to the new century. In order to seize this
rare chance in the history of Lanzhou to speed up opening-up and
economic growth, the city is making great efforts to promote the
development of its special-featured economy through undertaking
the strategy and bring its own comparative superiority into full
play. The city government and the residents are determined, through
efforts,to bring Lanzhou step by step into a modernized city with
beautiful landscape, prosperous economy and civilized society
and an important industrial base, a transportation and communications
hub as well as a center of economy, science and technology, commerce
and trade, finance and tourism in the western region. At present
and within a period of time from now on, the following projects

to speed up the construction of Lanzhou as a commercial and centre |

to undertake and complete the tourism route of local customs and
cultural features along the Yellow River within a section of 40km |

to exploit and utilize natural gas |
| 10)
to afforest the northern and southern mountains |
