| Nouakchott
is the capital of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.It lies in
the west of Mauritania and borders on the Atlantic ocean.It is
influenced by the hot wind arid in all seasons. The temperetureis
relatively higher in June,July and September,and the highest tempereture
is 40 degrees centigrade.The climate from November to next Feburary
is presently cool.The annual rainfall is 53 mm. Nouakchott was
originally a small Village with the population of only about 200,.The
villagers lived on fishing.On July 20th,1957,Nouakchott was decided
as the capital of Mauritania.On March 5th,1958,the government
began to go on the urban construction.The first term of the government
worked in the tents.At present,the population in Nouakchott is
almost 700,000 and holds 1/4 of the total populationin the country.Nouakchott
is an independent administrative region at the sea level with
other provinces.It has jurisdiction over 9 counties and the city
Nouakchott.It is under the jurisdiction of the Sixth Military
Region.Nouakchott is the political,cultural,commercial and finance
centre of the country.At present,there are over 30 small and middle
sized factories and many enterprises in Nouakchott,which are mainly
engaged in manufactury the products of light industry and the
handicraft.there are 8 collages and universities, 10 hotels,7
banks 3 great mosques and near 30 of the foreign diplomatic corps
and the international organizitions in Nouakcott.Nouakchott is
a hub of the communications in the country.It has highways leading
to the main cities of the country.The capital Airport is the major
port for the city to exchange with other countries.It has airline
flying to Paris and other countries close to Mauritania. The Friendship
Port aided by China is the largest deep water port in Mauritania,with
annual handling capacity of 700,000 tons and is the lifeline of
Mauritania. |
