Akita is one of the five largest cities in the northeast of Honshu in Japan.It is the political,administrative,judicial,economic and cultural exchange centre of Akita province.It lies in the centre of Akita province and is 140 19'E,O 34'N and faces Japanese Sea.The cities neighboured to Akita are:Aomart,Fmater,Yamagata and other provinces.The city has 16 districts and the largest one is the old city proper,the others are Lensoku,Kamishinku, shimo shinku,fujima,Soto Asahokawa,Taihei Shimokitate, Shiyuhanbu and Shitahama.The total area of the city is 459.46 sq.km,the population is 284,437,the population density is 6/9 person/sq.km and the population increase rate is 1.7%.The Climate of Akita is seasonal temperate climate.It is strongly influenced by the west wind from the Sibera in the winter and by the Asia continental climate in the summer.The tempereture difference between the winter and the summer is large.The average lowest tempereture in Auguest is 24 degree centigrade.It has distinct seasonal changes.The sowfall in akita is high and the accummlated sow layer can sometimes reaches to more or less one meter which is renowned in Japan.Akita is a city with long history.Long long time ago,it is called "leider" "Houder".In 1247(the 5th year in Taihei),the castal were over built here.In the southern and northern Dynasties,akita was a place that the Duckes and Princes settled in.In 1602( the 7th year in Keicho),Magi Takemin built the city of kubotajo which is the first name of Akita.The province-run park,senku Park,is the former site of the city of Kubotajo. Akita takes the agriculture as the principal industry with cultivating the rice as the main part.It is the famouse rice producing area in Japan. Akita province is also the well-known consuming area of alcoholic drink in Japan.
