| Geographical
Position |
| Located
between 35 38' and 36 13' N and 103 19' and 104 41' E, the district
adjoins Qilihe District in the east, Honggu District in the west,
Yongjing County in the south, Yongdeng County in the northwest
and with the Yellow River as a dividing line, it faces Anning
District to the northeast. Being the western part of the city
proper, it is about 18 km from here to the city government of
Lanzhou. Its total area covers 383 sq km. |

| There
are 32 nationalities inhabited in the district, mainly the Han,
Hui, Mongolian, Tibetan, Dongxiang, Miao, Uighur, Zhuang, Russian
and Korean. The population of the Han nationality makes up 97.86%
of the total while other groups for 2.14%. |
| HISTORICAL
EVOLUTION |
| The
district used to be a town of strategic importance on the ancient
Silk Road. It was once the inhabitance of Qiang and Rong nationalities
in early history and became a part of the Qin Dynasty during the
Emperor Zhao period. After a series of changes in titles and administrative
subordination, it became a county-level district of Lanzhou in
November 1955. |

| Transport
& Communication |
| There
are two railways, Lanxin and Lanqing, running through the district
while a suburb- train coming and going every day between the district
and the city proper. Besides, there are 23 special-purpose railway
accesses to those large enterprises located in the district. 3
highways both at state and provincial levels meet here. Country
roads link up all townships and villages of the district. it is
only 20 km to get to the Zhongchuan Airport, which has more than
50 airlines leading to domestic cities as well as to some foreign
ones. |

total capacity of its urban telephone system amounts to 37,000
gates. With the DD system, customers can get access to over 1,800
cities in China and 180-odd foreign countries and regions in the
world. Other facilities of modern communication, such as paging,
mobile phone and express mail service are also completely installed
here. |
