After
the development in a large scale for over half a century, an industrial
structure is now formed in Lanzhou with comparatively full categories
matche d to the resource exploitation in the Northwest. The structure
is mainly composed of such industries as petro-chemistry, non-ferrous
metallurgy, machinery and electronics, pharmacy, textile and building
materials. There are 40-odd industrial trades and over 5,600 enterprises
in Lanzhou making more than 5,000 kinds of fine products. Some
products even enjoy high prestige in China, e.g. concentrated
nitric acid, synthetic rubber, ferro-silicon, graphite electrodes,
electrolytic aluminium, oil recovery and drilling facilities,
ready-made traditional Chinese medicine, woolen and worsted-woolen
fabrics. |

Oil Refinery Works and Lanzhou Chemical Industrial Co. are the
two petro-chemical complexes set up at the early stage of new
China, serving as the cradle and base of China's petro-chemical
industry. The two enterprises have both provided technology and
talents for developing the petro-chemical industry in the country.
Where there is an enterprise for oil refinery or chemical production
there are people originally from the works or the company. |

with the optimization of the industries' structure and the expanding
scale of economic construction, Lanzhou High & New Tech Development
Zone (LHNTDZ) has seen a considerable progress in recent years.
Rapid development has also been achieved by high-tech industries
such as macromolecular synthetics, bio-pharmacy, refined chemicals
and building materials in new types, which have gradually become
the new factors in the city's economic growth. |
