| With joint
efforts by governments and non-governmental institutions of both
sides,the seven friendship cities have functioning as key media
in promoting Lanzhou's foreign trade and its exchanges in science,
technology and talent personnel,and paved the channel for collaberation
in fields of economy, trade,scince, technology,culture,education,urban
construction,sport,health care and food industry, playing an important
role in the city's further development both in economy and culture.

| In the course
of developing friendly relations with each of our seven sister
cities,we firstly insist in conducting reciprocal visits by each
other's government leaders either on regular or irregular terms
so as to discuss important issues and sign exchange programes
for next year. We send greetings and congradulations to each other
when there happen to be traditional festevals or an inauguration
of a new mayor.We also keep in touch with our foreign friends
both in their government organs and in friendship institutions.Secondly,we
stick on reciprocally sending professionals for post-qualification
training in order to learn advanced technology and experiences,
which has been proved as the most substantiall,economical and
efficient exchange programe.So far,Lanzhou has sent 54 students
abroad, and great progress has been made since they returned to
their working positions respectively in the fields of vegetable
and fruit fresh-keeping, fine strain breeding,enviroment protection,tap
water supply, medical service, hospital nursery and cardio-thoracic
surgery, etc. Thirdly,on the principle of equality and mutural
benefit,the two sides undertake substantial exchanges in economic
and technical fields. Today, over 10 friendly programes have been
fulfilled in such aspects as local commodities sales,automatic
control and monitoring of water supply, replacement of fruit tree,cardio-thoracic
operation,commercial management, coal gas project, culinary art
and Youngster's exchange programes. 300,000 Yuan RMB and 10 million
Japanese Yen, as financial supports, have been brought to the
city through the way of friendship-city relations. |
| At the same
time,Lanzhou has signed the friedly exchange agreements with 9
cities in 5 countries, namely Hachinohe Aomori Japan, Anbara Shire
Shizuka Japan, Kariya Aichi Japan, Lansing Michigan USA, Atlant
Georgia USA, Christchurch New Zealand, Maia Portugal, Leskovac
Yugoslavia and Kaposvar Hungary. Today, Lanzhou has developed
friendly exchange relations with th 9 international cities. |
